The project aims to investigate how weight, carbon footprint and cost can be reduced through the use of alternative materials, with the goal of improving the marketability RQT equipment.

Each body is currently made from Hardox 500 steel, primarily due to its historical availability, wear attributes and formability. The primary concern with steel is weight, RWT are also looking to become more sustainable and eco-friendly in alignment with current decarbonisations trends in the mining industry, steels are a relatively eco-friendly material regarding CO2 emissions during production. Cost reduction is also an important factor to consider when improving the marketability of heavy road equipment including the running costs over their lifespan.
